RAMSBOTTOM CC JUNIOR FOUNDATION

PRESENTATION EVENING 2008

Awards recognising two thrilling cup runs dominated proceedings at Ramsbottom CC’s Junior Foundation Presentation Evening on Friday. First team legend, Michael Haslam, presented the awards on a great night
at Acre Bottom; “The Grey Mare Express” only agreeing once assurances were given in writing that he wouldn’t
have to speak. Matthew Sutton, Jack Roberts, Nick Kroll, Tom Parkinson, Matthew Burdaky and Jonny Howard received Player of the Season trophies in their respective age groups. Alex Lenkowski, Matthew Bowen, Joe Bramwell, Nick Howard, Jamie Hoyle and Daniel Parkinson received recognition for the progress they have
made this year; the smile on young Jamie’s face, at least as wide as the Irwell, reminding us all why we bother.

Tribute was paid to John Steele, the spiritual leader and driving force behind the Foundation, who at the time of writing remains estranged from the club due to differences with the senior section. It is hoped that he can be persuaded to continue his outstanding work and a variety of campaign’s ranging from gentle persuasion to
outright blackmail are currently in full swing.

The theme of the night however revolved around the clubs’ two fantastic cup runs. Former player Navinder
Loomba presented his inaugural award to the U11 side which won the League Cup and with better luck with the weather might have bagged the double. An incredible achievement for a young side, with modest ambitions,
whose first league game ended in slaughter at the hands of Longridge. The Lady President’s Award went to the Under 13 team who reached the final of the County Cup. A roller coaster ride that tested the metal of all
concerned: players, officials, parents and staff (both ground and bar) alike. Jack Roberts capped a great season
by winning the Junior Foundation Player of the Year for making vital contributions throughout the cup run when his team needed them most.
