Francois du Plessis
Could any pro have had a more turbulent start
to his pro stint at Acre Bottom. Refused entry to the UK on his first
arrival. Injured in his first game and robbed at Burnley! But all in all
what a treat Ramsbottom Cricket Club supporters have had this last 8 weeks.
Who, of those present, will ever forget "that" catch in the 20/20 semi-final v
Nelson, not even Thomas Lord i don't think. And that wasn't the only
stunning catch. In the 20/20 match v Bacup he took 2 brilliant catches off
the bowling of Charlie Hamilton that he made look so run of the mill, and to
be honest, they were for him, his fielding was class. We've seen some great fielders
at Acre Bottom, Chris Harris to name one, but Faf just took it to another
level.
Faf with the bat showed from the off his
skill with that super innings of 83 in the victory at Haslingden. In
total he scored 3 century's & 3 half century's in 13 games in all
competitions, 133 not out his top score at Colne. Total runs of 746
from 13 innings including 3 not outs giving him a Rammy average of 74.60.
When asked to comment on what Faf brought to
Rammy, Manager Andy Dalby said...
"Faf has been fantastic, So much has happened in his eight
week's at the club, there has been so many highlights, I think he has
raised the bar for the whole team and the supporters alike. He's a pro who
is always in the game! If he's not batting (utilising the Faf turn!) or
bowling, you can just watch him field, which is worth the admission fee
alone!!!"Skipper Jon Fielding echoed those
sentiments...

"Faf
has made such an huge impact with the players that we have further belief
that we can go on and push for the league title. His batting , bowling and
fielding exploits have been second to none giving us so many special
moments in such a short period of time. Fafs professional attitude both on
and off the field will never be forgotten. On behalf of all the players I
would like to wish him all the best in his goal in reaching the South
African team which I am sure wont be too far away."
So his stint at Acre Bottom is over, and
in such a short space of time we've been treated to a master class of
Cricket from a true professional. He most definitely is the quality of pro
we at Ramsbottom
pride ourselves in providing for our supporters. Faf du Plessis is one of
the highest quality we've seen and can rank alongside the likes of Michael
Clarke, Chris Harris, Brad Hodge, Kartik & Keith Arthurton of the recent
past.
So Faf,We wish you all the best in your
quest for South African honours, And everyone from the committee to the
Yellow Army would like to say "THANK YOU".
