Tue 14th July- Ramsbottom 78-5; Burnley 79-4
Burnley Blues
Ramsbottom U13’s lost out to Burnley on Tuesday night to reach the half way mark in the season with two wins and three losses. Batting first again and dodging the showers the Rams limped to 79-5. Leo Bownas (32*) batted beautifully to reach his maiden retirement but no one was able to stay with him long enough to post a decent team total. The second innings followed the pattern of the previous match as Burnley were able to stay ahead of the rate despite a reasonably solid performance from the Rams in the field. The pick of the bowlers was James Yates who, coming off a shortened run, combined pace and hostility took 1-8 from his four overs.

Tue 30th June - Ramsbottom 95-6 v Todmorden 96-3
YORKIES CRUISE TO VICTORY
The U13’s came down to earth with a bump at Acre Bottom tonight as a mature and well drilled Todmorden side cruised to a well deserved victory. Winning the toss and batting first the top order were unsettled by Tod’s pacy opening bowlers before Harry Bearn and George Owen (16) steadied the ship. Owen fell to excellent catch behind square but Bearn played an excellent innings, deservingly leaving the field undefeated on 29.Todmorden started at a canter and were particularly savage on anything short. Leo Bownas and Tom Parkinson combined brilliantly to force a run out but the Rams were never able to stem the flow of runs. Late wickets for Bownas (1-14) and Nick Howard (1-11) were some consolation for their excellent bowling but the Yorkshiremen were never seriously troubled as they passed our total with two overs to spare.

Wed 24th June - Ramsbottom 131-2; Rishton 108-7
Rishton Run Out
The U13’s followed up their heavy defeat of Rawtenstall with a comfortable 23 run win at Rishton last night. Jonathan Dack (30*), Tom Urquhart (30*) and Tom Parkinson (28) formed the backbone of a decent first innings total with each player mixing controlled boundary hitting with swiftly taken singles. In reply the spirited Rishton side were always behind the rate and when they tried to force the pace through quick singles themselves they found Rammy’s infield in no mood to accommodate them. Dack ran out three with direct hits and would have had four with a more generous umpire whilst James Yates had one as well. Special mention must also go two youngsters: first Jonny Howard, called up at the last minute from the U11B’s who fielded like a tiger and bowled well too. Also Tom Godsall, making his debut in the 11-a-side team after several good performances in the pairs. He bowled well and stood out in the field. Remember those two names; you heard them here first.

Tue 16th June - Ramsbottom 154-2 v Rawtenstall 65
ROCKY ROUTED
The U13 11-a-side team opened their account on Tuesday with a resounding 89 run victory over Rawtenstall. Winning the toss and batting first the Rams posted an imposing 154-2 with Nick Kroll and Tom Parkinson both retiring out. With Rocky behind the eight ball early everyone had the opportunity to bowl and most showed good control. Acting First Officer Bownas followed up his first innings 22 with a two wicket burst to dent the middle order and James Hoyle prevented the tail wagging by taking 2-8

Tue 12th May - Haslingden 80-4 v Ramsbottom 77-4
Last Ball Blues
Two games two last ball defeats. A last ball defeat always confirms the drama but rarely explains the result. For the second game running we out batted and out bowled our opponent but once again the boring basics let us down. Whereas the fielding was generally improved on last weeks horror show this time we were given a lesson in running between the wickets. Eight bowlers shared the twenty overs and each showed tremendous control in restricting the total to 80 with the spin twins Hoyle and Bearn being particularly effective. Few boundaries were conceded but the Haslingden boys showed a very mature ability to keep the score board ticking over. The Ramsbottom reply started well as Bowen, fresh from County duty flayed the ball to all parts. We were well ahead of the rate when he left the field undefeated on 32 but the remaining batsmen became bogged either failing to hit the bad ball for four or refusing to run all but the safest of singles.

Sun 3rd May - Ramsbottom 74-2 v Colne 74-2
Under 13's Out of Cup
Current Cup holders, Ramsbottom U13, fell at the first hurdle on Monday as they lost a nail biting cup tie on the last ball against Colne. Inserted on a slow wicket, the Rams clawed their way to 74-2 with George Owen carrying his bat for 16 not out and Jonathan Dack adding some much needed impetus towards the end to finish undefeated on 23. Ramsbottom started well in the field but the generally impressive ground fielding was spoiled as three times Colne’s swashbuckling opener offered chances and three times they went to ground. However with twenty required off the last two overs, the Rams were still in a strong position. But two more regulation catches went to ground plus a series of miss fields allowing Colne to tie the game. If ever there was a game that proved the old adage that “catches win matches” then this was it. Our boys batted and bowled very well and also fielded well for 90% of the game but when pressure was applied in the field we were found wanting.
